The foundation of the Erice was laid down by the eponymous Greek hero Eryx which on top of Mount Erice on Sicily’s north-western coast in Italy.This ancient town like many other significant architectures in Sicily, remained under the domination of many invaders who put their cultural footprints in different eras of history.The name changed from Eryx, to Erice to Gebel Hamed and Monte San Giuliano and today it is known to the world as Erice. The most visited sites of this ancient and historic town are the two castles, Pepoli Castle and Venus Castle. The former was built by the Arabs while the latter was a Norman construction. Pepoli Castle of Erice in Sicily which is an imposing Italian monument was at first a feudal stronghold, though Erice was eventually ceded to the Crown as a demesnial city.

  1. You gotta love those ancient conquerors, because even though they were somewhat ruthless and imposed dictatorship on the people they’ve conquered; they do leave behind amazing things. Just like Erice.
