One cool thing about vacations is being able to see new things that you don’t have in your home town…and that includes clothes and home goods. Here are some of the best places to go on vacation when shopping is your main goal.
New York City
New York City is one of the best places to shop in the country and there is no shortage of awesome stuff to be found. The city has some super well known department stores, as well as world class vintage shops.
San Francisco
San Francisco is a big city full of shops. The Union Square area of the city is great when you’re looking for designer type stuff and the Mission District is good for more off the beaten path stuff. Other popular shopping areas include Hayes Valley, Haight-Ashbury, upper Fillmore, the Mission, Sacramento Street, Chinatown, and downtown’s San Francisco Shopping Center.
Chicago
Magnificent Mile in Chicago is a 13 block shopping area with 460 different stores. (It’s about a mile long, hence the name.) The area has a wide variety of stuff based on style and price range, so there’s pretty much something for everyone. Think luxury boutiques, designer studios, iconic department stores, and trendy hot spots.
Los Angeles
Los Angeles is one of the more fashionable cities in the country so of course there is going to be some great shopping, but there are also some malls that are fun in and of themselves. The Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica is an outdoor mall full of street performers, and The Grove has a permanent farmer’s market which is a super fun spot to each lunch.
St. Paul Minnesota
St. Paul is home to the Mall of America which is a massive 4.87 million square feet. To put that into perspective, the mall could hold seven Yankee stadiums. There are more than 520 stores inside so there’s something for everyone, and the mall also has other draws like roller coasters and tons of food.
Boston
Boston has a lot of great shopping in areas like Newbury street, which has both upscale designer stuff as well as used books and retro gear. Think both department stores as well as cute shops with Boston paraphernalia. The Faneuil Hall Marketplace is one popular shopping spot that is actually a historic stop on the Freedom Trail.
Houston
Houston is the biggest city in Texas with over 54 shopping centers and 16,000 retail stores. Houston is also home to the 2.4 million-square-foot Galleria which is one of the biggest malls in the United States.
Honolulu Oahu
Hawaii can actually be a really fun place to shop as well. Near Waikiki Beach there are tons of familiar department stores but the Ala Moana Center is where the most goods are. There you will find the more high end stores as well as kitschy stuff that you’ll only find on the island like the Hawaiian Island Creations stores.
For me one of the main reasons I even go on vacation is to shop lol. Small town life
Those big malls make me mad
