If you’re going to plan a vacation on a far off island, surely you’re planning to enjoy the beautiful beaches and some cocktails to go with them. But you might as well also head to an island that’s known for having great food as well. Here are some of the best island in the world when it comes to food.

Anguilla

The British Isle of Anguilla has a big food scene which includes some pretty upscale spots. When you really want to focus on the food you can actually stay at the CuisinArt resort which offers four different gourmet restaurants, cooking classes, and even rum tastings. BBQ is one food genre that is particularly popular on the island, so be sure not to miss it.

Crete

Crete in Greece is a great place to go when you want to experience all the traditional Greek food that the country has to offer. Think stuffed grape leaves. But the island also has some of its own special recipes, such as the dakos which is a bread salad made with tomatoes, feta, olives, and herbs, or the bougatsa, a pastry dish filled with cream cheese and topped with powdered sugar. Of course all of them should be eaten alongside some wine to drink.

Florida Keys

The Florida Keys seem to be a pretty mellow vacation spot, but the area has taken a renewed interest in the culinary scene. There’s a unique homey vibe to the islands, with a mixture of traditional American comfort food and fun island drinks.

Majorca

The island is home to the Dole Pineapple Plantation so you can’t leave without testing out a few different food dishes that are made with pineapples.

Capri

Capri is famous for its gelato, so if you really want to taste it in its best form, that’s the place to do it. Gelato is equally good to enjoy as an afternoon snack, for dessert, or since you’re on vacation maybe even both.

Harbour Island

Harbour Island is near the northeastern tip of Eleuthera, and pretty laid back with some awesome food options. Think crispy fish served with peas and rice.

Maldives

The Maldives are not only stunningly gorgeous, but they are known for having some incredibly fresh and delicious food as well. Think traditional seafood BBQ, sashimi, or other amazing fish dishes. (Gotta go with the fish.)
